Nigerian government has formally submitted the necessary requirements to the Government of Finland for the extradition of Simon Ekpa, a pro-Biafran agitator, Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking on Channel TV, General Musa stated that all necessary documentation and legal requirements for Ekpa’s extradition have been forwarded to Finland for review.

The move is part of Nigeria's ongoing efforts to address the activities of Ekpa accused of inciting unrest and promoting terrorism and secessionist agendas within the country.

Musa stated, "Well, I’m sure he's cooling off somewhere," when speaking about the arrest of the separatist leader on Channels Television’s 2024 Year-In-Review programme on December 31, 2024.

He continued, "Legal action will be taken accordingly. I don’t want to say too much, but I’m glad he’s been arrested. The Federal Government has provided most of the required documentation to the Finnish Government, so I’m confident the right steps will be taken."

In November 2024, Finnish authorities arrested Ekpa along with four others, on suspicion of involvement in terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and financing terrorism.

The Lahti District Court in Finland ordered Ekpa’s remand based on probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.

The separatist leader is accused of using social media to promote separatist propaganda and violently advocate for the secession of southeastern Nigeria.
